What is Pregnancy Massage?

Pregnancy massage is a specialised technique which is used on a pregnant woman after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to help relax, de-stress and ease the aches and strains that come with being pregnant. It is performed on a couch, lying on your side. Cushions and towels will be used to support you comfortably.  The therapist is specially trained to be able to understand how the body is changing and to know what to do and what not to do.

Additional Contraindications for Pregnancy Massage

In addition to the usual contraindications, clients must:

  • Be more than 3 months pregnant
  • Not have a low lying placenta
  • Not have a family history of, or be suffering from, pre-eclampsia or eclampsia
  • Not have gestational diabetes
